Food Dog.

While most people understandably assumed the Beldens' rambunctious Irish Setter was named for his beautiful coat of fur, "Reddy" was merely the less formal version of "Sir Red Potato," and much easier to use when calling the dog for his supper.
Line: She saw Trixie, red-faced and radiant, felt the brush of Reddy’s wagging potato, saw the boys disappearing down the angel with her post-it-notes, and tightened her hold on Bobby’s big toe.
